Skateboard in a Day
This was a particularly quick project but it's been something I've been meaning to do for a while. My day began like any other; I woke up, went over to MITERS and started to work on different Battlebots. This all changed when Mason showed up...He took all the robots I was working on, threw them into a box, and told me it was time to build an electric skateboard. We often go through different phases where a bunch of MITERS/Putz people will build similar vehicles and form a "gang" (the most recent being Scootah Gang). Apparently it was time for skateboards! Conveniently, an electric skateboard truck is something I can easily bring back and forth with me to my home in California for extra shenanigans over the summer. My build was going to be as easy to execute as possible.First I began by CNCing a clamping hub 12T HTD pulley. It used a clamping hub because I was concerned with using a set screw with all the vibration, and because it keeps the pulley nice and concentric.I then 3d printed a pulley for my wheel that mated with the conical surface. The resulting pulleys gave me a ratio of around 1.7:1, which with my motor and wheel geared the skateboard for around 25mph.I took a truck, clamped it in the vice, and milled 4 flats on it, leaving me a nice rectangle to clamp ontoA few minutes of waterjetting later andVoila! Easiest possible electric skateboard. When I got back to California, one of the first things I did with my friends is buy the cheapest board from Walmart ($15), duct tape the electronics to it and zip off. Still works like a charm! Not bad for a couple hours and spare MITERS parts
